At Zenith Wellness Co, we are proud to offer manual osteopathy services provided by Adrienne Dostie, RMT and Manual Osteopath (MO). Adrienne is fully certified and registered with the Canadian Massage & Manual Osteopathic Therapists Association (CMMOTA). This post explains how insurance coverage and billing work for her services in Alberta.
Manual Osteopaths vs Doctors of Osteopathy
Manual osteopaths focus on musculoskeletal and fascial systems and do not prescribe medication or perform surgery. Doctors of Osteopathy (DOs) are fully licensed physicians in the U.S. Coverage for manual osteopathy is typically under paramedical or alternative health services.
Insurance Terminology
Coverage may be listed as:
Osteopathy
Manual osteopathy
Manual osteopathic therapy
These titles are often used interchangeably by insurers and generally refer to hands-on, non-invasive manual therapy provided by a trained manual osteopath.
What Adrienne’s Registration Means
Her CMMOTA registration means many insurers in Alberta will accept receipts for manual osteopathy services under her credentials. This allows clients to submit claims for reimbursement, depending on their individual plans.
Manual Osteopathy Billing and Insurance Coverage -Reimbursement vs Direct Billing
Some insurance companies accept receipts, allowing you to request reimbursement after your appointment. Direct billing, where the clinic submits claims on your behalf, is not available with all insurers. Beginning in 2026, Zenith will be providing direct billing to a limited, but growing number of insurers. To see the updated list of insurers eligible for direct billing, please visit our FAQ Manual Osteopathy section.
Coverage and billing arrangements vary depending on your insurer and your plan. Some clients may still need to pay at the time of their appointment and submit a receipt for reimbursement, while others may have partial or full amounts billed directly.
What to Expect for Your Appointment
Payment is due at the time of your visit, except for clients whose insurers are eligible for direct billing.
You will receive a detailed receipt with all required information for insurance submission.
Submit your receipt to your insurer for reimbursement if applicable.

Canada Life / Veterans Affairs Canada: Currently, manual osteopathy services by CMMOTA practitioners are not covered. Manual osteopathy billing and insurance coverage are changing quickly, and we are hopeful that Canada Life will soon accept receipts for services with registered CMMOTA members.
