Meet Alys Sobool, a registered massage therapist and Reiki Master whose gentle, intuitive approach helps clients find rest, healing, and a deeper connection to their bodies.

Alys Sobool, registered massage therapist at Zenith Wellness Co

At Zenith Wellness Co, we believe in supporting our therapists as they grow their skills, refine their focus, and step confidently into the practices they envision for themselves. This month, we’re excited to feature Alys Sobool, RMT (they/she), whose work has made a lasting impact on their clients since they joined the Zenith team in March of 2022.

Known for their gentle, intuitive approach, Alys has created a space for clients seeking nervous system support and a holistic path to healing. As they prepare to transition fully to their home-based practice later this fall, we’re celebrating their time with us and sharing more about the unique care they continue to offer both at Zenith and in their own space.

Trauma-Informed Massage Therapy: Alys’s Approach to Care

Since beginning their massage therapy career in 2019, Alys has focused her treatments on restorative relaxation to support those who struggle with burnout, chronic anxiety/stress, and feeling connected to their bodies. She is a queer, neurodivergent femme/them with a trauma-informed lens and a rest-centered approach to bodywork. Her sessions are intentionally designed to provide compassionate, supportive, and tender care.

Clients often turn to Alys for relief from jaw tension, chronic headaches, and chronic pain tied to stress, injury, and burnout. Paired with practical homecare, Alys’s work supports clients in cultivating body awareness and building a nuanced relationship with their bodies.

With appointments still available at Zenith until later this fall, now is the perfect time to experience Alys’s care before they step fully into their practice at Body Brew Studio.

Body Brew Studio: A New Chapter

This fall, Alys will transition full-time to their home-based practice located in Lynnwood, West Edmonton. As a rest-centered designed space, Body Brew offers a different atmosphere from Zenith, which is more cozy, holistic, and shaped entirely around the experience Alys wants to create for her clients.

At Body Brew, Alys continues their focus on supporting clients who are navigating recovery from chronic stress and burnout. Their work is especially attuned to helping clients feel safe in their bodies and fostering an environment where nervous system healing and authentic embodiment of self can flourish. They currently offer treatments for massage, Reiki, and somatic embodiment (body-focused practices that help clients reconnect with and sense their physical and emotional experiences—learn more about Reiki and massage therapy in our Reiki FAQ post).

If you’re already working with Alys at Zenith and would like to continue seeing them after they move to Body Brew, we encourage you to explore their new practice at bodybrewstudio.com.

Continuity of Care at Zenith

We’re proud of the collaborative, client-centered environment we’ve built, where your wellness journey is always the priority, whether that means continuing at Zenith or following your therapist as they grow.

Q&A With Alys Sobool, RMT

We sat down with Alys to learn more about their work, their vision for Body Brew Studio, and their advice for clients on building meaningful self-care routines.

What inspired you to focus your practice on restorative relaxation and nervous system support?

Personally, I have struggled with burnout, perfectionism, chronic pain/stress in my life, and the more I followed my curiosity with that research, the more fascinated I became about the influence of the brain on the body and the body on the brain. Particularly on how interconnected everything truly is--from our very cells to the greater systems we all move within, and how all of that influences what we experience in our bodies and how we show up in the world. It's one of those things that once you see it, you can't unsee it, and it has irrevocably shifted the way I approach my 1:1 care and continue to learn as I grow in my field.

How would you describe the experience you’re creating at Body Brew Studio?

My care is trauma-informed, meaning that I invite clarity, choice, and consent in everything I offer. This translates into an experience that feels slow, spacious, and comforting. There is always an opportunity to ask questions, freedom to change your mind, and a personalization of my treatments that orients the body towards deep rest, recovery, and resilience.

What services will clients find at Body Brew Studio?

Currently I offer a range of services from massage therapy, Reiki, somatic embodiment, and clinical somatic exercise sessions. If you're curious about whether any of my treatments would be the right fit for you, you can book a free 15-minute curiosity call to ask me anything. Once a month or so, I teach in-depth, small class size Reiki courses, open to all who wish to learn. Recently, I started hosting a Somatic Stitch & Bitch evening, and it was such a success, I am now offering it monthly! I've got some other offerings in the works, but I'm trying not to get too ahead of myself.

Who is your ideal client?

I am here to serve women and queer folks who are struggling with burnout, chronic stress/anxiety, and feeling connected to their bodies. Those who are neurodivergent and either just beginning or in the middle of their nervous system healing/recovery would find themselves in compassionate, professional, and educated company. I am open to working with anyone 18 and over.

What’s been the most rewarding part of your massage therapy career so far?

Learning how to be someone whose very presence slows people down in a mindful way. I did not know I had developed this ability until it was pointed out to me by various people over the last year or so, but to me, this is the felt experience of someone who is genuinely practicing what they preach, and demonstrates that I am someone who moves through the world with authentic embodiment of my values. "Slow down" is my message and my method, and knowing that I can be that anchor for folks on and off the treatment table is the most rewarding experience I have had so far.

What’s your favourite tip for clients looking to prioritize self-care?

Make a Resource list and a Matrix of Support list. Resource list is more personal. Things like walking through nature, taking care of plants, dancing, colouring, knitting, etc--anything that makes you feel more like yourself. Matrix of Support is more communal. People you go to when you need support, whether paid professionals like massage therapists and psychologists, or family/friends you can gossip over coffee with--those you can turn to when you're feeling overwhelmed. Put things that are easily accessible as low-energy items for when you have hard days, and put them at the top of the list somewhere you can easily see them as gentle self-care reminders. Refer to either of these lists depending on what you need care for, how you're feeling, and remember to be kind to yourself.

One last tip for those who may find it difficult to access self-compassion: if being compassionate towards yourself feels too forced or fake, try inviting curiosity. Instead of telling yourself that you should be kind to yourself or minimizing what you are feeling/experiencing, try pausing and noticing what you're feeling/experiencing with a sense of "hmmm...interesting. I wonder what I need right now? What if I tried XYZ?" This helps to create a little bit of space in your system where new choices can be made, whereas forcing yourself to be/do/feel something can become more constricting.

Creating a self-care system that works for you is more important than trying to do it "right".

At Zenith Wellness Co, we’ve loved having Alys as part of our team, and we’re proud of the compassionate, client-centered care they provide. If you’ve been thinking about experiencing Alys’s trauma-informed massage therapy, now is the perfect time to book before their

transition to Body Brew Studio later this fall.
